Men's Group a Big Hit at Mareeba

Posted 6 Sep '21

Mareeba Aged Care in Maclean has launched the Mareeba Men’s Group, which is already proving popular with male residents.

The program offers an opportunity for Mareeba’s men to work together on a variety of projects that draw on the skills and trades they’ve learned throughout their lives.

Right now the men meet weekly at Mareeba’s Brigadoon Garden Rotunda to re-purpose outdoor timber furniture including sanding it back, replacing screws and bolts and staining. After the work is completed the men enjoy a get together with a sausage sizzle and Happy Hour.

Facility Manager Rachel Bennett said, “The program captures the interests and strengths of our male residents and offers the opportunity to socialise with other men.

“It is great to hear the buzz of sanders at work and smell the fresh wood dust - our male residents love being part of this group.”
