Mareeba Aged Care Men’s Support BBQ

Posted 18 Jul '18

Moving into an aged care facility is one of life’s major events, not just for the person moving in, but for their family and friends as well.

The Mareeba Men’s Support BBQ seeks to provide a supportive network for the many husbands whose wife’s reside at Mareeba. To assist them through this life changing transition and to help them continue to provide support for their loved ones living in Mareeba.

Today’s BBQ setting was not threatening or formal and allowed our men to meet together in a relaxed setting where they felt free to talk about what they needed to talk about. It was a safe space where they could give and receive emotional support and where they feel welcome. It is this context which allow trust to grow and friendships to develop. If you know of a husband within the Mareeba community who could benefit from attending our next BBQ (which will be held on Wednesday, 15th August, 2018), please contact the Leisure and Lifestyle department so they may extend an invite to them.
